Rent It Today Featured In Business Courier

Jason Glass wants nothing less than to build RentItToday.com into the eBay of the rental world.
He’s got a heck of a head start.

With listings for everything from houses to helicopters to high chairs, RentItToday is a one-stop Internet site for anything anyone wants to rent across the country. Want to rent an inflatable Hose Hockey game? It’s on there. A funnel cake fryer? The site has that, too. Dream of going to Miami and driving a Lamborghini for the day? RentItToday has a link to make that happen.
The searchable site lists hundreds of items for rent across the country and is gaining traction with local rental property owners who can list rental homes, condos and apartments on the site for as little as $4.99 per month per unit, said Glass, who launched the business with former mortgage broker Matt Stephenson.

“We take the Wal-Mart approach – low cost and lots of inventory,” Glass said. “Our market share just keeps growing.”As does the company itself. RentItToday now employs between seven and 10 people at its office in Cold Spring, including some part-time contract workers, Glass said. Glass and his partner want to grow that number to between 25 and 50 employees in the next year or so, he said.

After all, there are roughly 35 million residential rental properties in the U.S., Glass said. If RentItToday can get just one-half of 1 percent of those listings, Glass figures the company could earn $930,000 a month in recurring revenue. That’s not counting vacation properties and the many other categories on the site, he said.

Turning to internet first The business earns nowhere near that, but it’s growing. Glass said RentItToday used to struggle for sales of $4,000 per month. Now it has revenue of $4,000 per week, he said. That’s thanks to customers such as Uptown Rental Properties, which has about 20 properties listed with RentItToday and aims to increase that to 100 by month’s end, said Marketing Director Jessica Pfeifer.

“Today’s generation turns to the Internet as its first source of information for anything,” Pfeifer said. Sam Thompson, owner of the Real Property Management’s Cincinnati franchise, said his company gets more leads from its RentItToday listings all the time.

“He’s got a good national presence,” Thomp­son said. “He’s probably got the most unique product out there on the Internet because he’s renting everything.”

The company started in January 2006 as a magazine listing properties for rent. After 18 months, the partners decided to build a Web-only model, although Glass said they might bring back the magazine in vacation-oriented markets in the future. Now, though, the challenge is search engine optimization. Glass and Stephenson want their site to pop up on search engines whenever anyone looks to rent something.

Another site – for agents At the same time, they’re building a sister site, AgentRentalResource.com. Real estate agents who pay a membership fee can use it to access listings for rental properties across the U.S. that pay commissions. Glass calls it the “MLS for the rental world.” The site also can help agents link clients with credit repair programs, and they can earn commissions for that work, too, Glass said.

“In Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati, we probably have 1,500 properties that would pay a commission,” he said. Huff Realty real estate agent Larry Wallace said he has earned commissions through the site, although he views it more as a marketing tool. “I’m looking to build up my clientele of folks who are loyal to me as a result of this and will buy later on.”
Plus, he said, “The idea of getting even a small check in between normal sales is appealing to me.”

Glass and Stephenson are working with Hamilton County Development Corp. business coach Brenda Collins on the best way to grow their company, which Collins called full of potential.
“It’s conceivable that it could get a lot busier than it already is,” Collins said. “It’s just a matter of getting additional manpower to propel it forward.”

Glass is confident they have a winning concept. “The economy’s tough right now,” Glass said. “But our business is prospering week in and week out.”

Key West is THE Place to Ring in the New Year

Sure, New Year's Eve is a time to let go of the old and ring in the new, to reflect, and to make resolutions. But, let's be honest: it's also a time to party. And, here in America, we like to party by watching things drop on New Year's Eve. While New Yorkers bundle up and flock to Time's Square to watch the ball drop at midnight, Georgians head to Atlanta's Underground to celebrate by watching a giant peach drop. Following tradition, Key West partiers cut loose in bathing suits and flip-flops and choose from some of the country's most unique New Year's "drops." The Country's Best Party: A staple of Key West's New Year's celebration is the famous conch shell drop at Sloppy Joe's bar. Although Sloppy Joe's has been a New Year's tradition for sixteen years, it's not the only option in Key West. For a spicy celebration, Sushi, Key West's drag queen celebrity, is lowered from the Bourbon Street Pub balcony atop a giant, red, high-heel. And, as a pirate-inspired countdown, Key West's Historic Seaport drops a Pirate Wench from the mast of a schooner. Or course, all these options are best complimented by a dazzling fireworks display mirrored off of the Atlantic Ocean at the end of White Street Pier. The Country's Best Vacation Town: Celebrating New Year's Eve in shorts and a t-shirt should be enough reason to travel to Key West this year. However, if the warm weather and laid-back vibe isn't enough to convince you, perhaps a look into the town's amenities will speak louder. Aside from its reputation as one of America's best party towns, Key West is also famous for its sunsets. Lined with bars, shops, and restaurants, Duval Street leads right into a huge pier on the Atlantic Ocean, creating the perfect spot to watch stellar sunsets. While the visual display is breathtaking, the accompanying activity of street buskers who dazzle the crowd with acrobats, contortions, magic, and music always provide good "background" entertainment as well. Of course, getting away from the crowd can sometimes be in order. Take a walk down Key West's famous Old Town lanes, where your senses will be overcome with the smell of jasmine. And, don't forget that Key West is a beach town. If you're a fish lover, cast your hand at deep sea fishing in the Atlantic or fly fishing in the backcountry. Or, express your love for fish simply by sitting down to a fabulous dinner at one of Key West's famous seafood restaurants. Take a chartered trip to find dolphins, or dive and snorkel in beautiful coral reefs. Rent a kayak to cruise through the backcountry's water, or hop on a catamaran for exciting sailing. Whether you come to Key West for the party, the beauty, or the activity, you certainly won't be disappointed. The Country's Easiest Vacation: Sure, New Orleans is known as the "Big Easy," but the term can certainly be true of Key West as well. You'll find yourself taking life a bit easier as soon as you get to town. And, to compliment this attitude, you can make your trip to Key West even easier just by taking advantage of the many rental options available. Not only can you rent boating and fishing gear, but you can find just about any beach item you'll need for rent, including scooters, roller blades, and even sandcastle-making supplies. But, perhaps the best rental option comes with your accommodation choices. Whether you're looking for a condo right on Duval Street or a quaint beach home, you'll find exactly what you're looking for in Key West. New Year's Eve is the world's best night to party. This year, don't just come to the right place to countdown the seconds until midnight, but also come to the best place to spend the first few days of the New Year. In all likelihood, your resolution will be to get back to Key West soon.

As a parent to a new baby, you’re likely seeing life with a whole new set of eyes. While your feelings of unconditional love and devotion are quickly changing your perception of the world, it’s certainly not a stretch to confess that just about every detail in your life has gone through a major transformation. Beyond the dramatic changes to your sleeping pattern, your work schedule, and your lifestyle, your home has likely had a facelift as well. Your once clean and organized surroundings have been overtaken by the insurmountable items that your tiny bundle requires. And, while it seems inevitable that your baby is only going to need more things as he or she grows, you’ve quickly realized that your bank account is dwindling.
